Therapy for Children & Teens
Therapy for the kid, support for the family
I offer individual therapy for children and teens, and family sessions as needed. I have an attachment-focused approach and I believe that when a kid needs therapy, the whole family needs support. Kids often come to therapy when their behavior is concerning to their parents. If a child is experiencing overwhelming anxiety, difficulty regulating their emotions, navigating a parental divorce, or having social issues at school, it can be hard for parents to see their children struggling and not know how to make it better.
As a therapist, my role is to help the kid understand and process their experience, while also working with the parents about how to make positive changes in the environment. Throughout our work together, I teach children and teens new coping skills, and work with parents to reinforce these new positive ways of dealing with stress.
When we first meet, we’ll talk about boundaries, confidentiality, and parental involvement to make sure everyone is on the same page. Throughout treatment I will incorporate parent coaching and check ins as needed throughout treatment.
Collaborative approach to treatment
Prior to private practice, I worked in community-based mental health with youth and families. I’ve worked in school settings, with kids in the foster care system, juvenile justice, wraparound mental health programs, and traditional outpatient therapy. I have experience supporting youth with diverse needs and experiences, and I’ve developed a creative, collaborative style.
I draw on narrative therapy, play therapy, somatic, and expressive arts modalities. I also offer walk and talk therapy sessions for youth who have an easier time meeting at a park than in the office.
